#MAKEARTWHILEAPART It’s A Wrap! And Yes... We Made A Video!

#MAKEARTWHILEAPART

Over 6 weeks in April-May 2020, Vancouver Mural Festival teamed up with local artists, Business Associations, Vancity Credit Union, City of Vancouver and Goodbye Graffiti to create temporary murals on storefronts boarded up during the COVID-19 pandemic. The result was 60 incredible murals to inspire hope, brighten streets, celebrate resilience and connect communities. With stores reopening, many murals have been removed but we invite you to share in this inspiring project through our gallery here!

Big thanks to Drew Young, the Lead Curator, who handled the enormous task of artist support, selection and direction. Each artist was paid honorarium with supplies being covered by the City of Vancouver. 100% of the funds contributed by local BIA’s and Sponsors went directly to the artists, as VMF waived all fees, costs, and staff time for coordinating this program.

Special thanks to Brit Lawrence and her team, who managed the production of all 60 murals and managed the special safety needs of the artists and public. During this project the City of Vancouver COVID-19 social distancing rules were in effect and all artists followed health and safety regulations. We strongly urged the public to stay home and enjoy the progress of the murals by following the hashtag #MakeArtWhileApart through our Instagram and Facebook.

THANK YOU! The artists want you all to know they have felt so blessed to be able to do this work. The outpouring of good will, gratitude and hope that folks have extended to the artists has been a beautiful thing! Thanks Vancouver for pulling together during this time and spreading the love. Check out #makeartwhileapart on IG and FB to see more art. If you snap a good pic, please use the hashtag!

SPONSORS Massive thank you to our sponsors! This project is made possible by Vancity Credit Union and supported by the Downtown Vancouver BIA, South Granville BIA and the Robson BIA. Special thanks to our project partners: Goodbye Graffiti and The City of Vancouver’s Mural Support Program.

Big Love to our City!
THE VMF TEAM
