Details: The Skipper, the Trickster, The Hunter, and the Dancer travel in a canoe transcending time and space. Stardust, Sea Monsters, electricity and water are interwoven with ancestral iconography and color. Travelling as one into the unknown, each element interconnects into the whole.
"The Canoe brings many teachings into our lives. When we work together as one, we travel with more ease in our hearts, bodies and minds. This image is placed in a time and space encompassing the past, present and future. This piece fuses iconography and oral history from my Klahoose (Coast Salish), Wuikinuxv and Kwakwaka’wakw ancestors. I recognize that this work will temporarily live on unceded Coast Salish territory and acknowledge my place as a visitor to this land... Just passing through.
About Bracken Hanuse Corlett:
Bracken Hanuse Corlett is a multimedia artist hailing from the Wuikinuxv and Klahoose Nations. He got his start in theatre and performance and has since transitioned into a focus on digital-media, live-visual installation/performance and visual arts. He is the co-founder of the Vancouver Indigenous Media Arts Festival and over the last four years he has performed across the country as a member of the audio-visual collective, Skookum Sound System. He is a graduate of the En’owkin Centre of Indigenous Art and the Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and has studied Northwest Coast art, carving and design.
