Vancouver Coastal Health relocated several of their DTES teams from 524 Powell Street to 312 Main Street. The new space supports DTES residents who have experienced trauma in their lives. They offer non-medicinal services such as physiotherapy, counselling and a gym. The other teams at the site are outreach for DTES residents who have overdosed; the teams work to connect them with services as needed.

MEET THE ARTIST

Jordan Gallie is a proud member of the Tsleil-Waututh (səl’ilwətaɁɬ) Nation. At nine years old, Jordan visited the Museum of Anthropology and was inspired by the traditional artwork from across BC. Since then, his goal has been to create traditional Coast Salish artwork, to give back to his community and to inspire those just as he had been. In 2012, he enrolled in the North West Coast Jewelry and Fine Arts program and he has since been producing multimedia artwork for the City of Vancouver and multiple businesses across Canada to family and friends. Jordan has the passion to pass on teachings to future generations and has found the path he will proudly walk on.

At 12 years old, he was introduced to mask-dancing and has danced along with the Git Hayetsk Dancers: "The People of the Copper Shield", who have greatly influenced his art. In 2021, Chase revived his lifelong dream—drawing, formline drawing in particular. He took inspiration from the indigenous characters and stories of his childhood and blended them with mainstream concepts. Chase believes people from every culture can understand and appreciate indigenous artwork in some way, and hopes his work captivates a wide audience.
