VANCOUVER MURAL FESTIVAL RETURNS AUGUST 1-10 WITH AN EXPANDED 10 DAY PROGRAM OF EVENTS INCLUDING THE ALWAYS-POPULAR MOUNT PLEASANT STREET PARTY!



June 19, 2019 (Vancouver, BC) - Create Vancouver Society with support from Canadian Heritage, the Province of British Columbia, BC Arts Council and Mount Pleasant BIA, proudly announce the 4th Annual Vancouver Mural Festival from August 1-10th. Drawing crowds of 120,000+ to the streets of Mount Pleasant, the Vancouver Mural Festival has fast become one of the city’s most popular public celebrations. This year it returns with an expanded 10-day program of events leading up to the massive Mount Pleasant Street Party on Saturday, August 10 from 12-7pm.


HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights of this year’s 10-day programming include: Artists painting 25+ new murals in Mount Pleasant, Gallery Shows, 2-day Flash Tattoo, Thrive Talks, SFU Public Square, Nach’i’m: A Night of Indigenous Femme Excellence, Mural Tours, Super Snag Live Art Raffle, Open Air Movie Theatre, Sunday Special Pride Party, Live Music and more!


Saturday’s MOUNT PLEASANT STREET PARTY -- the festival’s main attraction -- takes over 14 city blocks in and around Main and Broadway, transforming the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood into a dynamic, living art space. Free, family-friendly, and full of activities for everyone, the August 10 street party features the highly-anticipated debut of 25+ new Murals (on top of the area’s 120+ murals from past years), Live and Interactive Art, Live Music, Skate Jam, Dance Battles and Workshops, Holden Courage Memorial Graffiti Jam, Family Art Zone, Community Painting, Markets, Food Trucks, 4 (family-friendly) Beer Gardens, 25+ Breweries, Public Disco Dance Party and more!

2020 ARTISTS

This year’s Festival once again brings together ARTISTS across diverse disciplines ranging from fine art to street art to painting, carving, weaving, graphic design, animation and illustration. Attracting over 800 applications, the 2019 curated artist lineup includes internationally-renowned muralist/street artists from around the globe such as ONEQ (Japan), SatOne (Germany), Medianeras (Argentina), and Fintan Magee (Australia), plus acclaimed local/regional artists such as KC Hall and Pablo Zamudio.

MUSIC

This year’s MUSIC programming, presented by AIR MILES® Stage Pass, includes two free stages at the Mount Pleasant Street Party, plus The Park Show - an evening, ticketed concert. The free, afternoon Street Party stages feature headliner, DJ NDN (Co-Founder of A Tribe Called Red), along with a strong line-up of local talent including Blonde Diamond, Haley Blais, Missy D & Friends, Tonye Aganaba, DJ Paisley Eva, Quarterback, Francis Arevalo, Sleepy Gonzalez, and Sam the Astronaut.

The Park Show at Jonathan Rogers Park celebrates the finale of the festival on Saturday, August 10. Headlining the all-ages event will be acclaimed NYC singer-songwriter, LP. Special guests include BADBADNOTGOOD, Canadian indigenous artist iskwē and local Vancouver legend MY!GAY!HUSBAND DJ’ing throughout the event, plus more to be announced. Tickets to The Park Show are on sale June 21 at www.livenation.com. The concert is free for kids 12 & under.


COMMUNITY

With a strong belief in COMMUNITY collaboration, Vancouver Mural Festival continues to partner with community organizations on projects throughout the year. This year, with the support of YVR, VMF partners with organizations such as the Overdose Prevention Society, Federation of Canadian Artists, Vancouver Skateboard Coalition, Big Brothers, Paintillio, Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, Mount Pleasant Community Centre, Take A Hike Foundation and more. This summer will also see Part III of the very successful Blanketing the City Mural Series, featuring work by Musqueam weaver Debra Sparrow. Details for all these community projects and more will be released in the coming weeks.
