DIS/INTEGRATE: AN EVENING OF EXPERIMENTAL PERFORMANCES – FEATURING RAULA & WHY CHOIR

UNDERPLAY CONCERT SERIES presented by MRG Concerts West and102.7 THE PEAK

Admission: FREE!

‘Dis/integrate’ is an evening of experimental interdisciplinary performances combining fragments of movement, music, visualizations and invention.

Raula

Raula is an audio/visual collaboration between media artist Kiran Bhumberand trumpeter JP Carter. Together, they explore the relationships between organic and synthesized sounds, performing on preexisting, and newly built instruments and interfaces. This interaction will create a combination of traditional and contemporary, creating a feedback loop which evolves each frame at a time.

Kiran Bhumber will be performing on The Crystallizer, and the Responsive User Body Suit. The Crystallizer is an electroacoustic instrument which generates sound and light. The physical structure is inspired by intricate crystalline structures which illuminate colours when light is casted onto them. The player is meant to interact with the instrument as if they are ‘crystal gazing’; where one casts their focus on the object in order to transcend into a meditative state where they can see images predicting their future.

JP Carter will be performing on his extensive trumpet and electronics setup, which will react along with live visuals.

why choir

why choir is the semi-improvised sonic exploration of Ben Brown andRoxanne Nesbitt. The band is an interplay of acoustic and sampled sound textures and written and improvised lyrics. Both musicians use tools from existing projects, Roxanne (Graftician) voice and electronics, Ben (Pugs and Crows) drums to tell new stories. why choir is also a testing ground for percussion and string instruments that Roxanne designs and makes. They are joined by movement artist Kelly McInnes for this performance.
